FAQ for Counselling
1] What is your approach to therapy and how does it work?
My approach is integrative, based on person-centred, psychodynamic, existential and transpersonal traditions. Together, we will explore your experiences, thoughts, and emotions in a safe and compassionate space. This personalised approach can help you gain insights, find meaning, and foster growth.
2] How long are the sessions and how many will I need?
Sessions typically last 50 minutes. The number of sessions depends on your individual needs and goals. Some clients benefit from short-term work, while others prefer ongoing, in-depth work.
3] What can I expect from our first session?
In your first session, we'll discuss what brings you to therapy and explore your goals and expectations. It is an opportunity for you to ask questions and to see if we are a good fit.
4] How do you tailor your approach to meet individual needs?
I tailor my approach to fit each client's unique situation, based on the most appropriate techniques and frameworks to support their journey.
5] Is what I share with you confidential? Are there any exceptions?
Everything you share is confidential. Exceptions include legal requirements to disclose in cases of serious harm to you or others or if required by a court order.
6] What is person-centred therapy and how can it help me?
Person-cantred therapy focuses on their innate potential for growth. By offering empathy, unconditional positive regard and authenticity, I provide a supportive environment where you can explore your feelings and develop self-awareness and self-acceptance.
7] How do you integrate psychodynamic principles into your work?
Psychodynamic therapy helps to uncover unconscious patterns rooted in past experiences. Exploring them can foster insight into how they impact their present life and relationships, fostering greater emotional freedom.
8] What role do existential themes play in our sessions?
Existential therapy explores life's deepest questions, such as meaning, freedom, and mortality. Together, we'll tackle these issues to help you live more authentically and align with your values.
9] What is the transpersonal aspect of your practice and how can it benefit me?
The transpersonal approach recognises the spiritual or transcendent dimensions of the human experience. This perspective can help you connect with a deeper sense of purpose, fostering wholeness and healing.
10] How do you balance these different approaches in therapy?
I rely on these approaches flexibly, depending on your needs. Our work is collaborative, and we focus on what resonates most with you at any given time.
11] How do I know if therapy is working for me?
You may notice increased self-awareness, better relationships, or a greater sense of clarity and well-being. We will periodically review your progress to ensure your needs are met.
12] How can therapy help me explore my spiritual or existential questions?
Therapy provides a safe space to delve into deep questions about existence, spirituality, and purpose, helping you find clarity and direction.
13] What does healing look like from your perspective?
Healing is a journey of integration, self-discovery, and growth. It involves finding balance, accepting your vulnerabilities, and living with greater authenticity and purpose. Often, things can get worse before they can feel better.
